External event: Making Science Work 09 9.30am to 3.30pm - The Met Office, Exeter
How can your organisation benefit from a future with climate change? Making Science Work 09 will be a high level interactive opportunity exploring how climate change and the global drive toward a low carbon future will set the context for innovation in the coming years. Whilst we support and uphold efforts to help the environment, this event will be slightly different to most, focusing on how tech based business can best exploit current business opportunities, which we feel are now inextricably linked to the low carbon agenda. Programme • Facilitated by Jonathan Johns, former Head of Renewable Energy at Ernst and Young • Prof Andrew Sentance - Professor of Sustainable Business, Warwick Business School and Member of the Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee – Defining the “low carbon” challenge • Demonstrations of cutting edge technologies developed in the South West for a low carbon future • 2 round table discussion sessions – please be prepared to contribute ideas • Dr Chris Preist – former Principle Scientist, HP European Research Labs - New business opportunities in a low carbon economy • A half hour VIP tour of the MET office facility. “The debate on climate change is moving on from scientific analysis to practical action and business opportunity. I am pleased to be working with businesses and policy-makers in the south-west to help identify how innovation and technology can be harnessed to meet this key challenge." Andrew Sentence Making Science Work events allow a rare opportunity for senior individuals from the business, HE, research & technology and investment communities to network with one another. Discussion at these events influences the work programme of the South West Science and Industry Council and through it the South West Regional Development Agency. The Science and Industry Council are individuals from businesses in the South West who believe in the benefits that science and technology can contribute to business growth and the environment. However, no one set of individuals can know everything and we hope that delegates will be able to share opinions on the key themes of the day. We would be delighted if you could join us at this important event and help us achieve our goal of a successful sustainable economy for the South West of England. The MET Office have kindly offered to host the event at their HQ in Exeter. The event will take place between 9.30am and 3.30pm on the 3rd December 2009. Please let us know if you have any special requirements, dietary or otherwise. Could you also indicate if you have any problems with your name, company and job title being circulated amongst delegates prior to the event? Please respond by email to reserve your place at contact@sciencesouthwest.org.uk Booking details
